Although wine tasting will not be available here, the experiences and curiosities offered may prove just as refreshing as a pleasant glass of rosé.
The Museum of Ethnography will appear on Saturday and Sunday at the wine picnic as a creative children’s corner, where visitors of various ages can find entertaining and educational games tailored to their interests. All you will need for the activities is a little curiosity and imagination. Even without prior knowledge of the exhibitions, the whole family can enjoy a fun and relaxing time in the tent.
Throughout the day, the museum’s tent will host several museum education programs. These interactive sessions will introduce both children and adults to the museum’s award-winning permanent exhibition, which opened in autumn 2024 in its new building in City Park.
For the picnic, the museum’s educators are preparing a special edition of their long-running and popular “Night at the Museum” program. Visitors will be the first to experience this brand-new version at the event.
This interactive program will explore the theme of sleep. As you rest from the day’s activities, participants can share their own bedtime routines, talk about how they drift off to sleep, what dreams they have at night, and discover some of the unusual sleeping arrangements featured in the museum’s collection. Through a selection of fascinating objects, visitors will gain insights into the diversity of sleep-related cultures, situations, and habits.
Together, we will examine the environment in which we sleep and explore how we adapt to light and darkness, warmth and cold. During the activity, children will get a hands-on experience of what it is like to be an ethnographer. They will even have the chance to contribute their ideas to how exhibits are arranged, and learn how a night spent at the museum really works.
In addition to the educational programs, visitors can also take part in a fun quiz related to the museum’s collection using a mobile app. No preparation is needed, just a bit of courage and a smartphone. This is especially worth trying, as participants who complete the quiz will be entered into a draw to win one of five family all-in tickets, which grant access to all three permanent exhibitions and four temporary ones at the museum.
